Don't Let the New Wear Off!

I love the first day of school, everyone is rejuvenated from their summer break, students are excited to see their friends, and everyone is dressed for success!  Judging by the smiles on everyone's faces they had a memorable summer and returned to school refreshed for the school year.  I hope everyone is ready to make the challenges we face this year into opportunities for success.

I posted a picture on the school's social media sites this morning that said, ¨Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.¨  I witnessed lots of motivated students this morning.  How do I know this you might ask?  Well, students arrived early, smiles were everywhere, students moved about the building with pep in their step, and laughter filled the halls.  I read a quote the other day, sorry I cannot recall the author, that said, ¨inspiration is like bathing, it's effective but only for a short time, which is why it is recommended daily.¨  Wouldn't it be nice for every day of school to be filled with energy like the first day of school?  How awesome would that be?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that our inspiration motivates us and eventually causes us to form great habits but only if we maintain a daily focus.  Research says it takes 21 days to form a new habit.  So, if we has administrators, teachers, and students want to make the experience of the first day of school as a daily habit we must continue for the next 20 days just like we did today.  Don't let the new wear off! Think you get to go to school, instead of you have to go to school.  Surround yourself with positive people to encourage you, lift you up, keep you inspired, and highly motivated.  Think positive and Don't Let the New Wear Off!
